Silvana Bustillo

Research Associate

Silvana Bustillo (Colombia) is a conservation biologist with over 15 years of international experience working at the intersection of biodiversity protection, Indigenous rights, and global environmental governance. She has dedicated her career to advancing rights-based approaches to biodiversity conservation and strengthening the role of local communities in policy and decision-making, especially in rainforest countries, including Colombia, Peru, Brazil, DRC, and Indonesia.


Her career includes roles in WWF Colombia, IUCN, and the Rainforest Foundation Norway, where she has led advocacy work in global biodiversity and climate negotiations under the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), as well as multiple projects to support the implementation and monitoring of international agreements at national and regional levels.


Silvana holds an MSc in biodiversity conservation and use and is fluent in Spanish, English, and Norwegian. She continues to balance her professional commitments with her active engagement in regenerative agriculture and her roles as a mother and yoga teacher.
